ITS NAMESAKE

Where does the Southern Cumberland Plateau get its name? Thomas Walker was an early Tennessee explorer and was responsible for naming rivers and other landscapes. He gave the Cumberland River its name which was used for the plateau. However, who or what is Cumberland? He was Prince William, the Duke of Cumberland, and most notably, the son of King George II.
